Christine Dando was not sure if she was on a Bear Grylls survival course or photoshoot for Dando London's latest campaign.

 

In 4c freezing Canadian temperatures, Christine Dando, Photographer Erwin, and one

very intrepid model faced a daunting challenge!

 

Christine explained 'I love location shoots, Dando London is not a static

brand our Brides are adventurous, edgy and confident.  I want the

images of the Collections to reflect that'.

 

 

 

'It was cold, cold, cold, our model was shivering and we had to keep her warm

as possible - her feet were blue even with boots on!  Photoshoots sound glamorous,

but the reality is very different.........

 

 

 

The location was visually stunning, the landscape beautiful with rocks, running water

and vistas to fill the heart with joy.  But.... accessing the locations was challenging.

They would have been a challenge to simply hike....but with cameras, bridal gowns,

and all that kit required for a shoot it was taxing in the extreme.  The ground underfoot

was slippery, the rocks sharp and it was difficult just to walk, climb and move from

area to area.

 

Shooting on location is a very different to filming in a studio.  It brings with it many

variants to overcome.  The light and wind direction can change in an instance.  Everything

needed for a successful shoot has to be carried by the team.

 

A cloud can block the light, a gust of wind lift a train and having spent time finding the

perfect spot, positioning the model and arranging the gown it can be to no avail.  We

then have to start all over.

 

 

 

 

 

The photographer, Erwin, can then find a fabulous new position, the model can take her place,

the wind does not blow and the light is perfect - but we can't get the gown to sit correctly

on the rocks - its start all over again.

 

Meanwhile we are up against the elements, fading light, the clock and of course the temperature

is dropping all the time.

 

This is the reality of a Dando London shoot.

 

 

 

'It was challenging, would I do it again....when I saw the rushes of the images, the bruises

had faded and I had thawed out ...Oh Yes the images are perfect'
